Welcome to the web site of the Leeds Writers' Circle.
We understand that this writer’s circle (begun in 1926) is probably the oldest in the country.
We meet in the Carriageworks (in the centre of Leeds) on a fortnightly basis - Monday evenings.
Our reason for being is to provide writers (no matter what they write) with a friendly, supportive forum in which to read their work and get feedback from fellow writers. Therefore most of our meetings are manuscript evenings giving the opportunity for you to read your out loud to your peers. It is not as scary as it seems - we want you to succeed as a writer.
During the forthcoming year we will also be running three competitions - Synopsis, Short Story and Poetry - details to be announced later - an opportunity to get your work perused by an experienced adjudicator, and win a prize.
We will also be providing three subsidized workshops - Synopsis, Show not Tell and Poetry - details later.
Our intention is also to facilitate the provision of a number of other workshops of interest to specific members.
Our challenge over the forthcoming year will be to provide an atmosphere whereby increasing numbers (since our move to the Carriageworks) can enjoy the benefits of mixing with kindred souls in a supportive environment.
Newcomers are very welcome. Come along - sample what we have to provide and hopefully enjoy yourself.
