March 15th. A Half Day Workshop with River Wolton
How do we write with a strong sense of Place - geographic, imagined or remembered? How can our writing reflect our local and wider environment? This workshop will offer a variety of starting points as well as impetus for on-going work. Writers of all genres and levels of experience are welcome.
River Wolton is the current Derbyshire Poet Laureate, with a remit to celebrate the places and people of the county. She has published poetry and non-fiction, and leads workshops in schools, libraries and community projects.
The workshop will be held at The Carriageworks from 10 am until 1 pm, and members will be charged a nominal £5.00 fee There will be twenty places.
Another event to note is a visit to Leeds Prison (Armley Gaol) which has been arranged by Dennis Clarkson on Monday February 25th. This means that the Ideas Evening planned for that date will be postponed.
The ideas evening will now be held on March 10th, at The Carriageworks as indicated on the prospectus.
The deadline for entries for the Playwrighting Competition is Monday February 18.
Leeds Writers' Circle Poetry Competition will be judged this year by Pauline Kirk. Details of the competition (which closes April 14th 2008) will be circulated to members nearer the time, but in the meantime, Pauline has invited members to attend a number of events.
If you would like to attend any of these, please let Ted or Kath know and we will provide further details.
Pauline says:
I'm working on the final stages of my own new collection, Envying the Wild, which comes out at the Pennine Poets event on the opening day of the Festival (March 1st from 2.30 p.m. in the Marriott Room of the Central Library.)
The main launch event for my new book is on Sat April 26th from 2.30pm, in Jacob's Well, York, when I will be reading with two other Pennine Poets, Julia Deakin and Andrew Boobier, who also have books coming out.
I'm taking part in the Bronte event on March 8th at Holy Trinity, Goodrumgate.
It would be great if any of the group were able to come to either event. Just let me know and I'll reserve tickets. The Pennine Poets one is free, but we have to keep an eye on numbers.
